A lot of times we get carried away with ‘stuff’ – the rat race called work, kids, school etc. – that we don’t get enough time to do as much da’wah as we would like. I’ve made a compilation of a few acts of ibaadah (good deeds) that won’t take as much time and are ‘heavy’ in the sight of Allah. These good deeds come highly recommended by the Prophet SAW and have corresponding great rewards.
Number 1 on the list is the 12 supererogatory prayers. This is mentioned in several ahadith. I’ve highlighted a few below.
- As narrated by Aisha (RA); Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “Whoever is regular with twelve Rak’ah of Sunnah (prayer), Allah will build a house for him in Paradise: Four Rak’ah before Zuhr, two Rak’ah after it, two Rak’ah after Maghrib, two Rak’ah after Isha, and two Rak’ah before Fajr.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi 414
- Umm Habibah (RA) also narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever prays twelve rak’ahs in a day apart from the obligatory prayers, Allah (SWT) will build for him, or there will be built for him, a house in Paradise.” Sunan an-Nasa’I Book 20, Hadith 211
- Also refer to Sahih Muslim: 5 – The Book of Salaat, Hadith 370 – 375
Who doesn’t want a house in Jannah?! I mean that’s the whole point of all our deen isn’t it? I want like a thousand houses if that’s an option- lol. And the good thing is it’s so convenient. I mean you have to pray anyway; might as well add a few raka’at. I enjoin us all to try to do these Sunnah prayers – yes, I know it’s basically doubling the time for our salaat but really, look at the end reward. A whole house (hopefully a mansion) in paradise!
May Allah make our journeys to Jannah easy and may He count us among the successful ones. Amin.
