Muslimah hurdles

The ‘Oga’ that doesn’t like your face…

Salaam alaykum,

So there’s this madam in my office that I don’t know what i did to her o…

For whatever reason she just cannot stand me. She singles me out at the slightest opportunity. Thank God I don’t work with or report to her but ah Subhanallah! she tests me.

Talking to people about this got responses along the lines of – “just free her, that’s how she is”; and I’m like but she’s being a bully! and they go – “you have to respect her, oga is oga”. Hmm. it’s not easy to be omo-ise o. One day omo-ise will become oga too in shaa Allah.

Anyway, so after my initial anger and gragra, I started thinking about it and how my new outlook to life relates to this. Islam teaches us to respect authorities in our communities. A community is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common so your workplace counts as a community. In other words, even though she’s being a bully, I have to respect her because 1. she’s older, 2. she’s my senior at work and 3. because I am trying to be a good ambassador of Islam.

Hmmm… ko easy o. Pride/arrogance has no space in Islam at all especially in a Muslim woman. You have to approach everything with humility. So now I’m trying to figure out how to swallow my shakara of “I will not apologise cos I did nothing wrong; she’s just bullying me for whatever reason”. May Allah make it easy, grant us sabr and hikmah. Amin.

Barakallahu lee wa lakum
