Muslimah hurdles

Why hijab?

Salam,
So there are a number of questions about the hijab in Islam. Quite interesting ones really; ranging from “should hijab really be imposed on women?” to “Is it a cultural thing?”.
A lot of us Muslim women have gone through different stages of evaluating ourselves against ‘societal standards’; trying to follow the doctrines of our religion while maintaining some level of ‘modernity’. This is especially true for the Muslimah who has a corporate career. A lot of us find ourselves justifying our state of hijab and hoping God understands. Or we procrastinate. “I will start soon, or next Ramadhan, or when I get married”. What we forget is – no one knows their appointed time. I am the Number 1 culprit of this crime – yes! CRIME! I call it a crime because it’s a major injustice against ourselves as we may be doing everything right except this one thing!.
I’ve heard people say hijab isn’t compulsory. Please don’t be deceived. Hijab is as compulsory as other as aspects of Islam. There a number of verses in the Quran that specifically talk about the believing woman’s covering; my personal favourite is in Suratul Ahzab Q33:59.
SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful
Dear sisters, may Almighty Allah accept our acts of ibadah and may He soften our hearts and make it easy for us to please Him. May He clear our paths and make us great ambassadors of Islam.

This is a first of many posts In Shaa Allah. My name Shaakirah Sulaiman and I’m a struggling Muslimah.
